"It's been quite a few years since that's happened for us," Hawkins said. "We've played just well enough [to get to sectionals], but I know we can play better."
Hawkins' girls golf team did not play well enough to advance past the Champaign St. Thomas More Regional. The Lady Knights' team score of 483 put them in sixth place out of seven teams at Stone Creek Golf Club.
St. Thomas More won the meet with a team score of 331. Mahomet-Seymour and LeRoy shot a 364 and a 392, respectively, to advance to the Kankakee McNamara Sectional.
Amber Tsevelekos advanced to the sectional as well, placing seventh among individual qualifiers with a score of 99.
However, it was not the score she had in mind, and she was seen in tears after she played the No. 9 hole.
"She's gonna have to play a lot better than she did today [at sectionals], or else her season's over," Hawkins said.
Regardless, Amber Tsevelekos will be at Oak Springs Golf Club in St. Anne, Ill., for the Kankakee McNamara Sectional on Monday.
However, the rest of the Blue Ridge girls golf team will not be joining her.
Megan Tsevelekos finished the meet with a score of 109. Melinda Wilson and Jacquelyn O'Neal shot a 132 and a 143, respectively to contribute to the Lady Knights' score.
