Al Davis, even in his twilight years, was a man who was committed to win his way.
Hence, the Oakland Raiders' slogan "Commitment to Excellence."
Over the past few years, there have been some jokes about his age and his stubbornness at the helm as the Raiders' owner. I'm sure some of you may now feel bad about those jokes now that he had passed away.
But for those of you who do not remember, Davis (as Oakland's coach) was part of a renegade group called the AFL.
This league helped form the Super Bowl. Three Super Bowls were won by the Raiders, and all of them were won by the millions of Americans who indulge in its festivities on Super Sunday.
Say what you will about Al Davis' remaining years, but the NFL is better for his years with the Raiders.
